Moving to Tumblr

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

In a last-ditch effort at reviving the former granditude (grandness + attitude = granditude) of this blog, i’ve decided to move the blog to Tumblr. Hopefully the easy posting etc will mean shorter, but more frequent updates.

For now the blog will be updated here:

http://bacontarian.tumblr.com/

If the experiment turns out to be a success, i’ll change that to http://bacontarian.com/

Also the rss feed will move to http://feeds.feedburner.com/bacontarian

New posts will also end up on twitter @bacontarian.com

This site will stay up for the foreseeable future.

Nosheteria: Bacon Popcorn

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Wow! I must try me some of this…..

Nosheteria: Snacking Thy Name is Decadence

But this is Nosheteria, not some ascetic kitchen, and I’ve been out of college for quite some time, so leave it to me to bring popcorn from the healthy to the sublime. And what is the fastest way to do that? By adding bacon of course…everything’s better with bacon.

Pictures of Rotting Bacon….

Do NOT click on this link unless your love of bacon is strong enough to handle images of it in rapid deterioration!

Okay, now…take your time answering this one. On a scale of 1 to 10, how badly do you want to see pictures of rotting bacon? The answer to this question very well may play a strong factor in whether or not you want to scroll down.

Fantastic Jumping Pigs at the Royal Melbourne Show

Friday, October 13th, 2006

If my admittedly atrocious Italian serves me correctly this photo series depicts a flying pig contest at a show in Melbourne, Australia. Those Australians have all the fun.

Thanks to my friends in the Italian bacontarian support crew for the link.

Bacon burglar busted

Monday, July 17th, 2006

Utah’s Desert News reports:Pig-out on bacon leads man straight to the pen

An uninvited dinner guest who apparently found himself in hog heaven inside a man’s Salt Lake apartment was arrested late Tuesday.

When the man who lived in the apartment opened his door near 100 West and 1700 South just before 11:30 p.m., he found a 45-year-old stranger sitting in his kitchen.

The man had fried up two pounds of bacon from the refrigerator and was eating it, said Salt Lake City police detective Robin Snyder.

The tenant didn’t waste any time squealing on the porker and called police. When officers arrived, they found the bacon-eater’s speech was so slurred that they didn’t even try to interview him, Snyder said. They just took him straight to jail for investigation of burglary.

The investigation into the incident was continuing Wednesday, including whether the man was intoxicated.

Transgenic bacon

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Recent news reports from Taiwan about transgenic green pigs are filled with speculation about the use of glowing pig genes in genetic research. Little has been written about the implications for our community. Since the pigs are “green from the inside out”, with a visible tinge to their internal organs, it stands to reason that bacon produced from these pigs would glow brightly under blue light and have a gentle green color under normal light.

The implications of this are, of course, stunning. Green pig sausage would be especially exciting, as green organ meat in green intestinal casing would likely amplify the color effects. And, as you’ve surely realized, we are now a step closer to our Seussian vision of green eggs and ham.

I have initiated contact with the Taiwanese researchers in the hopes of obtaining one of these green pigs – or at least a green pig belly – so that we bacontarians can begin our research agenda into the all-important subject of green bacon production. I’ll keep you posted on their response.

No response from the Taiwanese researchers yet, but JD “Illiad” Frazer reveals that great minds think alike with this User Friendly cartoon.
